Antigone Heraclidou

Αntigone Heraclidou is a historian and researcher.  She holds a bachelor’s in political science from the University of Cyprus, an MSc in International History from the London School of Economics and a PhD in Modern History from the Institute of Commonwealth Studies, University of London with the support of the A.G. Leventis Foundation. Her research interests include Cyprus’ colonial history, decolonisation, education and cultural heritage. She worked closely with several museums in Nicosia from her post as an Officer at Nicosia Tourism Board. Between 2019 and 2025, as Senior Research Associate at CYENS Centre of Excellence, she worked on EU, RIF and UNDP funded projects. In 2022 she was awarded a research grant from the RIF’s Excellence Hubs (RESTART) programme for her project: DeepMapping Nicosia’s urban centre, 1960-2020.

Antigone has also taken curatorial work over the last five years. She has co- curated two historical exhibitions: Ledra Palace: Dancing on the Line (2021) and On the Field: Football. History. Nicosia (2022-2023), both taken place at the Leventis Municipal Museum of Nicosia, as well as the British Rule room of the permanent collection of the museum (2023). She collaborated with NiMAC for the exhibition Repetitive Acts (20024-2025) and with the Leventis Museum for the exhibition Sector 2: Nicosia (2025), as a scientific consultant. She also designed guided tours in the city of Nicosia in collaboration with the Home for Cooperation and People of Cyprus.
